Amphoe Chiang Saen in Chiang Rai to Bo Keaw:- In a historic town on the banks of the Mekong River in Chiang Rai, the archaeological remains indicate that Chiang Saen was a significant site of prehistoric human settlement. Amphoe Chiang Khong in Chiang Rai to Huai Sai:- The small, peaceful districts of Chiang Rai and Chiang Khong are one of the most popular gateways to Laos. The border crossing is made from Buck pier to Huai Sai in Laos. Excellent cruises on the Mekong River depart from Buck pier where visitors are able to rent boats to Luang Prabang, Chiang Saen and the Golden Triangle.
Mukdahan to Savannakhet: - Mukdahan is one of four border control checkpoints to Laos. The second Friendship Bridge, completed in December 2006 provides an overland link to Savannakhet, with a chance to experience the tranquil countryside of Laos. Mukdahan, once a part of the province Nakhon Phanom, is a land of fantastic natural rock formations, known for its sweet tamarind fruit.

Nong Khai to Vientiane: - The city of Nong Khai offers a panoramic view of the Mekong River and Laos on the opposite bank, and serves as the gateway to Vientiane, capital of Laos. With the opening of the first Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge spanning the Mekong River in 1994, a major overland link connecting Nong Khai on the Thai side to Tha Na Laeng in Laos was established.
Chong Mek in Ubon Ratchathani to Pak Se: - Chong Mek is the boundary between Thailand and Laos that marks the end of Highway No.217, which is connected to a road in Laos leading to Pak Se, a tourism center in the south of Laos. Apart from the immigration check point, there are a market and a duty-free shop.
