The Region
Crystal clear turquoise seawater, white sandy beaches, abundant sunshine, gentle sea breezes, and rich marine life of Southern Thailand attract both locals and foreigners from every nook and corner of the world to this region. Southern Thailand consists of a long peninsula, reaching all along the border of Malaysia with Andaman Sea on the west side and South China Sea on the east. Both sides of the coastlines are full of sandy beaches and offshore islands completed with mountains, forests and waterfalls. The eastern coast on the Gulf of Thailand always seems to be more relaxed, with long, wide bays and calm seas. The Andaman Sea coast tends to be more uneven and exhilarating with its strange limestone rock formations and cliffs. Apart from the rare natural beauty the rubber plantations, coconut and pineapple, coupled with the distinctive culture of diversity of people make a trip to this region an unforgettable experience.
The Climate
The location of the South makes its climate very different from the rest of Thailand. It has only two seasons – the wet and the dry. The peninsula forms an obstacle that makes the seasons to run at different time on each side. The southwest monsoon sweeps the western coast and the Andaman Sea from May to October. While the northeast monsoon moves across the Gulf of Thailand form November to February. The best time to visit this region is from February to late April, when it is not too wet.
