There are two routes that visitors can take from Bangkok to the South – take Highway No. 4 (Petchkasem Road) or Highway No. 35 (Thon Buri-Pak Tho) then join Highway No. 4 pass Petchaburi, which will lead through to Chumporn and Suratthani. To get to Phuket, visitors have to cross the Sarasin Bridge from Phan-Nga. Daily buses are available to major provinces of the South from the Southern Bus Terminal in Bangkok. Tickets can be purchased either from travel agents or directly at the bus terminal.
By boat
There are several exclusive yacht clubs where visitors can anchor their vessels such as Yacht Haven Marina, Phuket Boat Lagoon Marina and Royal Phuket Marina. Yachts traveling from other countries can process immigration procedure for themselves and their vessels at Phuket Deep Sea Port or Vessel Control Center in Chalong Bay. When traveling to Ko Phi Phi, Mu Ko Similan or other offshore islands, the means of transportation are ferries and boats. More information is available in major hotels.
Getting around the South
Traveling within the Southern region is convenient as there are different kind of public transport network is available. Boats shuttle between many islands, while bus and trains link Surat Thani with destinations further south. Many options are available when getting around the South such as minibus and motorcycle taxis can take you around the islands, or rental motorcycles or car that allows you to travel on your own.
