A vast plateau covering almost one third of the country, with stunning scenery of natural resources like mountains, waterfalls, rice paddies and rivers is the Northeast Region of Thailand. It is also known as I-San. This region extends northwards to the Mekong River which divides Thailand from Laos to the south and ends near the Dong Rak mountain range along the Cambodian border. Due to its strategic position bordering Laos and Cambodia, the Northeast has become a useful starting point for adventure travel to destinations along the mighty Mekong River. borders of Myanmar and Laos.
Although it is mainly an agricultural area, but the Northeast is a vacation mystery rarely visited by tourists. Full of historical and traditional charm, this region is one of the most fascinating destinations of the country with many Stone Age and Bronze Age dwellings and artifacts. There are several significant temples that are a legacy of the great Khmer empire.
The Climate
Few locations of the northeast are such that where you can experience the extreme climatic conditions Which are hottest in the hot season and extremely cold in winter season when the temperatures dip below zero degree. The Northeast enjoys three seasons, same as the rest of the country, with a relatively cool dry season from November to late February, followed by a hot dry season from March to May and then a hot rainy season from June to October
