The Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge built across the Mekong River makes Nong Khai a major transport hub and trade center with Laos. Nong Khai is famous for the Phra That Nong Khai, an old chedi that slipped into the river and can now only be seen completely in the dry season. Another temple Wat Pho Chai, is renowned for its large seated Buddha, highly respected by the people of Nong Khai. Sandstone mountain peaks, lush forests and stunning waterfalls can be seen at Phu Wua Wildlife Sanctuary.
Surin
Surin is renowned both locally and internationally for its raising and training of elephants. Elephant is the symbol of the province .Visitors can learn the techniques of raising the elephants and watch their performance at Surin’s elephant village. Numerous Khmer ruins are present at Surin, such as at Sikhoraphum depicting the scenes from Hindu mythology. Handicrafts of woven rattan baskets and silk weaving are also very popular among visitors.
Udon Thani
Renowned for its archaeological wonders, Udon Thani is full of fascinating natural resources. The archaeological site of Ban Chiang is a world heritage site declared by UNESCO .It is a home to many ancient objects such as earthenware pots. Most of the area in Udon Thani is covered with rice paddies, forests and hills allowing visitors to enjoy the astonishing scenery such as at Phu Phan mountain range or buy the fragrant orchid from Udon Sunshine Orchid Garden.
