The Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge built across the Mekong River makes Nong Khai a major transport hub and trade center with Laos. Nong Khai is famous for the Phra That Nong Khai, an old chedi that slipped into the river and can now only be seen completely in the dry season. Another temple Wat Pho Chai, is renowned for its large seated Buddha, highly respected by the people of Nong Khai. Sandstone mountain peaks, lush forests and stunning waterfalls can be seen at Phu Wua Wildlife Sanctuary.
Surin is renowned both locally and internationally for its raising and training of elephants. Elephant is the symbol of the province .Visitors can learn the techniques of raising the elephants and watch their performance at Surinís elephant village. Numerous Khmer ruins are present at Surin, such as at Sikhoraphum depicting the scenes from Hindu mythology. Handicrafts of woven rattan baskets and silk weaving are also very popular among visitors.
