Unspoiled natural surrounding with many species of wild fauna and unique way of life by the river can be found at Uthai Thani . It is the southernmost part of the Northern provinces. Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary that merges with the Thung Yai Naresuan Sanctuary is the largest protected animal reserve in Southeast Asia. In 1991 it was declared as a Natural World Heritage site by UNESCO. The reserve has jungles, forests, plains, many streams and a number of rare and endangered species of animals. Those who are interested in a different kind of lifestyle, visiting the Rafts on Sakae Krang River is an opportunity for them to see how people live on the raft would be an ideal activity. Apart from the natural tourist destinations, Uthai Thani also offers its visitors to learn about the Thai culture such as at Wat Ubosatharam, an ancient temple on the Sakae Krang Riverside that has beautiful murals painting on the walls depicting the biography of the Lord Buddha.
Uttaradit
With a long history from the pre-historic time, Uttaradit is flourished with remarkable cultural heritage. There are many sacred temples such as Wat Tha Thanon which houses Luang Pho Phet the highly respected Buddha of Uttaradit . Wat Thamma Thipatai, which has five meters high carved wooden doors. Sights of the environment are the Sak Yai Forest Park which has the biggest teak tree in the world and Sirikit Dam, a large dam with breathtaking scenery of a lake in the background.
