Lampang is rich in archaeological remains reflecting ancient civilizations of Hariphunchai, Lanna and Burma. It shows a great diversity in culture. Outside the city is the walled temple of Wat Phrathat which is considered the most beautiful temples in Thailand.Besides the cultural charm, Lampang is also famous for its parks, waterfalls and camping areas for nature lovers. The best-known attraction is the Elephant Conservation that puts on shows as well as offers the mahout training.
Lamphun
Once ruled by Queen Chamathewi who created Hariphunchai state, Lamphun today still maintains its delightful ambience of the powerful history and the greatness of the Queen. The town’s main attractions are Wat Chamathewi, where the Queen’s ashes are enshrined in the Chedi and Wat Phrathat Hariphunchai, which was built to house relics of Buddha. Another attraction is Mae Ping National Park that features fertile forestland, sheer cliffs reservoirs, and river that is suitable for rafting.
Mae Hong Son
Stunning scenery, numerous hill-tribe communities with there exotic culture and adventure opportunities make Mae Hong Son a dream destination for visitors across the globe. Nestled in a secret valley on the Myanmar border, Mae Hong Son’s architecture is strongly influenced by Myanmar’s culture. Striking examples are the two picture-perfect temples, Wat Chong Kham and Wat Chong Klang, on the bank of River Chong Kham. A visit to a unique “Thai Yai” hill-tribe community will show visitor a different kind of culture from Lanna’s through its architectures home and temples. The more adventurous visitors head for a small town Pai , that is the center of trekking activities and one of the most sought after tourist destination in Thailand . Virtually covered with mist throughout the year, here the visitors can enjoy ample of activities such as raft along the Pai River, trek through the forests on foot, riding on an elephant or stay at the hill-tribe villages.
