Rich in culture and traditions, the Northern region hosts several amazing festivals that can be found only in this region such as Yi Peng Festival. This is a unique traditional launching of Lanna-style lantern, where everyone can enjoy much small driving firelight under the full moon sky. Another festival is the Songkran Festival or traditional Thai New Year. The festival starts with the ritual of people performing the bathing rite for Buddha images, then paying tribute to elders and asking for their blessing. The festival finishes with playing water splashing.
