A former glorious royal capital of 417 years, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya or Ayutthaya is one of Thailand’s historical and majestic highlights. It was once mentioned as one of the largest cities in Southeast Asia. The remains of this island city are of extreme archaeological importance and restoration has been extensive. Today, it is a historical park and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Chao Sam Phraya National Museum contains numerous relics rescued from the ruins, including gold items buried in temples. The park is strewn with ruins of palaces, temples, and monuments. Wat Phra Si Sanphet was the largest in its day, within the royal palace compound. Visitors to Ayutthaya can marvel at its grandeur reflected through numerous magnificent structures and ruins concentrated in and around the city island surrounded by Chao Phraya River, Pa Sak River and Lopburi River. Some 20 kilometers down the Chao Phraya River is the magnificent Bang Pa-In Summer Palace, and the Royal Folk Arts & Crafts Center at Bang Sai.
Prachin Buri
Prachin Buri, with beautiful waterfalls and criss cross canals is very popular among adventurers. The province is also well known for its national parks which spread across 3000 km and make up the largest protected areas in Thailand. Through the traces of the ancient town, there were discoveries of historical venues that were used for religious purposes. Phraya Abhai Bhubate Building is a two-storey European-style building, which is a part of the provincial hospital and a study center for traditional Thai medicine and medicinal plants.
