Founded during the Ayutthaya Era over three centuries ago, Pathum Thani is home to Mon-style Wat Hong Pathummawat. With its fish sanctuary, and old temples like Wat Sing, it is the first monastery built by the Mon community. Up the Chao Phraya River, Wat Phai Lom is one of the world's largest sanctuaries for Indian open-billed storks. The agricultural basin of the Central Plains turns out to be a vast producer of fruits, vegetables, cut flowers and plants.
