Bueng Chawak is a part of the Tha Chin River which branched off to form a semi-circular shaped lake. The lake was excavated to dam up to 10 million cubic meters of fresh water which irrigates 6,500 rais of agricultural land. The surrounding areas were developed into other projects such as the Wildlife Extension Center, a Garden of Indigenous Vegetables, and an exhibition center for aquatic animals.
