By Air
In the capital, most visitors to the Central and East Coast use Suvarnabhumi International Airport as a hub for air transportation. However, there is an international airport in Rayong, U-Tapao International Airport of the Royal Thai Navy located in Ban Chang, Rayong. To exploit the western area of the region, SGA Air operates daily flights to Hua Hin airport, a domestic airport in Hua Hin, Prachuab Khiri Khan.
By Boat
Although regular boat services are not available, keen sailors can take a private chartered boat to the ports on the East Coast, available in Chon Buri at Laem Chabang. Yachting is very popular in the region, with such an exclusive yacht club and the largest world-class marina in Asia.
By Road
Conveniently connected by the network of road link, the Central and East Coast destinations are just a few-hour drive from Bangkok. For west bound to Kanchanaburi, visitors can take highway Phetchakasem Road (Highway No. 4). For south bound to Prachuabkhirikhan, visitors can take Highway No. 35, passing Samutsongkharm then get back on Highway No. 4. For north bound towards Lopburi, visitors can take Highway No. 32 via Ayutthaya. And for east bound towards Sa Keo, take Phahonyothin Highway to Rangsit and use Highway No. 305. There are daily buses to all major provinces from Bangkok, departing from the Southern Bus Terminal and the Bangkok Bus Terminal.
By Rail
Daily trains to the Central start at Hualampong Railway Station stopping at Ayutthaya, Lop Buri, and most major provinces of the Central and East Coast. Both fanned and air-conditioned seats are available. The seat can be converted into a sleeper for the air-conditioned overnight rides. Food and drink are available in cafeteria. Tickets can be purchased at the Hualumphong Station, Bangkok.
Getting around the Central and East Coast
Most people leave Bangkok on a bus or by train for destinations in the Central and East Coast of Thailand. Traveling by bus is faster and more modern in style, with well-developed road networks throughout the region. Taking train is more time-consuming, hence offering rare opportunities to take in the scenic countryside of the country. Heading South to Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan is most convenient by train. The Central is also connected to the North and the Northeast by train.
