Probably the most instantly recognized Thai ancient sport throughout the world is Muay Thai or Thai boxing. The sport is synonymous with the spirit of the fighter in the blood of the Thai people, but it is much more than just that.
Muay Thai is a national form of martial art and the most internationally famous Thai sport. Bouts are five rounds of three-minute each separated by two-minute breaks. Nowadays, matches take place on a 7.3-square-meter canvas floor supported by four padded posts. As an athletic activity, Muay Thai demands fighters to strengthen their body, develop their speed and control as well as kicking and punching skills which are an integral part of the sport. As a performing art, Muay Thai requires each fighter to perform a dance — the Wai Khru or Ram Muay before the start of the competition to honor the participants, teachers, parents, and ancestors that shows respect for the spirits of Muay Thai.
Thai Boxing training courses are available nationwide. The length of courses starts from days to months and the course generally takes place in English and Thai.
