Cordoba lies at the foot of the Sierra
Morena and has the Guadalquivir flowing through its borders. The city is a
peaceful place with narrow streets, small plazas (squares) and beautiful
patios ornamented with flowers. Its well known streets, such as Albucasis
and las Flores, as well as the small squares are encompassed by walls that
open out on to the Puerta de Almodóvar.
Great monuments include the Moorish mosque, or Mezquita, called Medina
Zahara, Alcazar de los Reyes with its statues and garden; Puente
Romano Bridge, Museo Vivo de Al-Andalus and Museo Arqueologico. The Mezquita
is one of the most beautiful examples of Muslim craftsmanship and clearly
reflects the multiracial composition of the city.
Cordoba´s diversity in its landscapes and natural surroundings allows
one to practice almost all specialities of sports. In conclusion, Cordoba is
a very lively town in the best Andalusian tradition; a town of Flamenco and
bullfighting, and certainly one of the most attractive destinations in
southern Spain.
