AmsterdamAmsterdam is one of the finest cities in Europe as it is beautiful, modern, laid back, with lots to do and lots to see, with many pubs, excellent food from all over the world and friendly people. A visit to this splendid city gives a feeling as if the city is still placed in the 17th century. The center of Amsterdam has a lot of charming architecture dating from this period. Here the center of the city is shaped like a horseshoe, surrounded by four famous canals called the “Singel’, “Herengracht”, “Keizersgracht” and “Prinsengracht”. These are best to walk along if you want to see the city’s beautiful gabled houses.

There are lots of interesting small shops for browsing and bigger shopping centers in one of the passages for example in the old post office, which is right behind the central Dam Square on which one can find the Dam Palace.

Getting There
Airport : Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is the international airport of the city. It is 15 kilometers (9 miles) southeast of the city center and is a mere 15 minutes away from the city center via the Schiphol Rail Line. The link operates between the airport and the city 24 hours a day.
Trains : also depart from Schipol station for the Netherlands' other main cities. Taxis and KLM bus shuttles operate between the airport and major city hotels. A trip downtown via taxi or shuttle takes about half an hour.

Getting Around
Trains, buses, trams, bicycles are various ways to move around in the city.

Amsterdam's Historisch Museum : The museum is located within the former convent and orphanage dating back to the sixteenth century. Hollandse Schouwburg : The theater was used as a collection ground for Jews who were to be sent off to the camps during World War II. Standing as a small structure amid the streets of Amsterdam, this building represents a large section of the tragedy that befell this age.

Universiteits Museum de Agnietenkapel : Built in 1473 and part of the university since its foundation in 1632, it is a wonderful example of the Gothic style that once added beauty to the chapels of Amsterdam. The chapel exhibits immense beauty within its elegant, and lovely stained-glass windows. The museum displays the history of education, research and student life.

Verzets Museum Amsterdam : The Museum of the Resistance includes assortment of artifacts and interactive displays that portrays the resistance movement within Amsterdam. The museum aims on themes as sabotage and espionage.

Van Gogh Museum : Van Gogh's paintings were defined by seven distinct periods, and this is the way the museum is laid-out. The Van Gogh collection, which contains more than 200 pieces, is arranged in chronological order, allowing visitors a convenient way to glimpse the 10-year career of this great artist.

Holland Experience : The multidimensional film and theater show offers picturesque vistas and historical stories on the development of Holland. An impressive feature of the Holland experience is the simulated display outlining what would happen if the 80,000 liters of salt water were to break in the dikes system of defense.
