Getting Here Muzium Negara is located near the Department of Museums Malaysia, at Jalan Damansara.
Hours : Weekdays 9 a.m. to 6 pm, except during Aidil Fitri and Aidil Adha.
Accessibility : There remains a very smooth accessibility within the national Museum of Malaysia. An elevator for wheelchair users is available inside the Muzium Negara. They provide wheelchairs on particular request of the visitors.
Photography and Videos : Photography and video recording is allowed in the museum for private purposes only.
Nearby sightseeing : Malaysia's beautiful Lake Garden, Tugu Negara (the National Monument) and the KL Bird Park.
The Backdrop : The National Museum is the prominent attraction of Malaysia. The concept of Museum in Malaysia has started in 1883 when the British government established the Perak Museum in Taiping in 1888. It is followed by the Sarawak Museum in Kuching, set up in 1899. Selangor Museum building was destroyed by a bomb explosion on 10 March 1945. After independence of the country in 1959, the government felt the need of a National Museum. For this Purpose they appointed world-class architect to design the National Museum on the site of the Selangor Museum.
Brief description : A historical gallery, a cultural gallery, a national sports gallery, metalwork and musical instruments gallery, and a natural history gallery has carefully festooned the National Museum Premise. The museum was started to serve as a storehouse of Malaysia's affluent cultural heritage throwing light on the country's glorious historical past.
