Batu caves are the significant devotional site to Hindus as well as an extremely popular tourist destination in Malaysia. Batu caves are the collection of several famous caves. These caves are the finest example of limestone construction discovered in 1892 with the majestic structure of 400 meters long and 100 meter high. Among these three main caves, Temple Cave or Cathedral Cave is the well-known and the biggest. The cave ceiling is positioned 100 m above the ground festooned with a huge chamber. This imposing chamber is lit by daylight from numerous holes in the ceiling. 272 steps are to be climbed to reach the cave through rock stairs. These caves hold several shrines the Sir Sri Subramania Swamy Temple are prominent and highly liked among them. These shrines are highly accountable in making the caves a vital halt of Malaysia for devotees.


The Thaipusam festival :

Every year thousands of devotees from all round the globe make their way to Batu caves to enjoy the festival, Thaipusam. An estimated amount of 800,000 devotees and other visitors gather there during this festival. Kavadis (literally, "burden," such as a pitcher or jug) are taken by the devotees as a form of penance or sacrifice. By performing several hard penances they suppose some favors from their Gods. Thaipusam is organized in the tenth month of the Hindu calendar.


Location : The Batu Caves are located thirteen kilometers (seven miles) north to the capital of Malaysia. The visitors can reach the Batu Caves easily by taxi or public bus which is 11 and 11km from the famous hotel Golden Triangle. Pudu Raya Bus Terminal in Kuala Lumpur is the central place from where the public busses can be boarded.
