The Greeks are enormously known for being extremely religious and orthodox. Celebrated with great enthusiasm and zeal, Greece festivals (Panagiri) are the prime most fascinations of social get together and excitement. These festivals are systematically scattered in all parts through the year. The Festivals are generally celebrated as per the Greek Orthodox calendar, similar to the Catholic calendar, with exemption of Easter.
The following are some of the most significant Greece events and festivals:
January 1: New Year’s Day
A prominent festival of Greece obeyed in the month of January is the feast of Ayios Vassillios or Saint Basil. On the eve of New Year’s Day children’s are given gifts.
January 6: Epiphany
It is the feast of Fota in Greece, performed by a priest who blesses the waters (seas, rivers and lakes)
March 25: Feast of Annunciation
It’s a festival about story telling of Mary regarding incarnation of Christ.
April to May: Easter
The prime most occasion of Greece is Easter. The festival follows a number of rituals and customs. It starts on Good Friday when the villagers carry candles and get together in a procession of the Epitaph, Saturday starts with a ceremony to remember the resurrection of Christ.
June – July: Athens Festival
Symphony orchestras, classical drama and dance at the Herodeion are the main charm of the Athens festivals.
June – August: Epidaurus Festival
The most passionate and expressive Greek drama is held at Epidaurus Festival at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus. The drama, better known as a re-creation of ancient Greek classics and its theatre is the beauty with aural quality.
